Scholarships and Education Opportunities

We are working to end sex trafficking and desperation among youth who travel the “back way”, by offering opportunities to our global community to sponsor tuitions for Gambian youth to attend school and for young Gambia entrepreneurs to receive business training, professional mentorship and cultural exchange.

Medical Supplies

$1.5M in Medical Supplies – The Smiling Coast Foundation partners with Big Dreams Inc. to raise $15,000 needed to match an anonymous donor, to ship the first in a series of 40 ft. containers of essential medical supplies, biomed equipment and medicine to targeted hospitals and clinics in the Gambia. With over 15 years of combined experience in humanitarian aid to the Gambia, The Smiling Coast Foundation and Big Dreams Inc, have joined forces under the guidance of Nell Diallo, International Health, Development & Fundraising Advisor, to ship these essential medical supplies to those areas most in need.

Food Security

We are tracking the forced migrations of displaced Gambians to nearby villages who can temporarily aid with shelter so that they might also serve meals.

Our target areas are:

  • Manduar
  • Darsilami
  • Marakissa

There are many others in need. We are starting with these three to begin.

Each village has around 100 households (families of approximately 3-5 members) for a total of 300-500 people.

GETTING FOOD TO THE GAMBIAN PEOPLE

Support The Smiling Coast Foundation today so that we can continue to work with village elders and local vendors to purchase food items so that our volunteers can then bundle and distribute food to each household.

Food bundles for each household will include:

  • 2 – 25 KGS bags of rice (5000D)
  • 2 – 5 Gallons containers of oil – 3000D
  • 1 – 5 lb bag of sugar (3000D)
  • 1 – 25 KGS bag of unions (2500D)
  • 1 portable gas burner (1500D)

The cost per household is 65,000D ($275 USD) for a total of = 19,500,000D ($82,500 USD).

Additional Costs

Safe drinking water is also limited. We do not have access to water trucks on the ground but our team is capable of drilling a well in less than 4 days.

Well system built at each village – 500,000D ($9K USD) x 3 village = 1.5MD ($27,000 USD).

NOTE – Senegal is our surrounding neighbour. We have friends there who can also bring things across the border as needed. If water trucks are available in Senegal, with resources, we can transport water trucks to the Gambia.

Distribution

We are working with 3 villages to start by connecting directly to their elders and volunteers to distribute resources.
Our volunteers will deploy local buses and vehicles to deliver the food.

● Ground Transportation = 100,000D ($2K USD)

Project Management

The Smiling Coast Foundation founder, Bubacarr Manneh will oversee the project lead. The Board of Directors will also provide administrative support, fiscal management and documentation.

$25 per household served = 400,000D ($6000 USD)

TOTAL PROJECT COSTS: 5,5218000D ($100,762.78 USD)

Timeline

Once funds are received into our Smiling Coast Foundation business account for our nonprofit organization at EconBank in the Gambia, we can implement these solutions and have food in the hands of the people within 48 hours.
