Cultural Exchange and Historic Preservation
We seek to establish a long-term relationship with the Ministry of Tourism and Culture to build an international network for more Gambian artists and culture bearers to participate in cultural exchange and to uplift the Gambia as a cultural destination for other artists and scholars to continue to experience their return home to Africa.
• Our founder, Bubacarr Mannah is currently visiting Atlanta, Georgia as a part of a cultural exchange initiative in partnership with the Praise House Project, a US-based 501c3 nonprofit organization, to gain knowledge around historic preservation as we uplift the legacy of our namesake, now ancestor, Dr. Bokari Sidibi, who was the renown National Griot of the Gambia. It is our effort to digitize his rare archives of over 150 years of oral histories.
• We also seek to revive the ROOTS Festival, a longstanding cultural event which drew international audiences to the Gambia, which served as a base for economic growth and sustainability through cultural tourism. To this end, during his stay in Atlanta, we are meeting with arts and cultural leaders to gain support and skills to this end, in hopes to also host a cohort of arts leaders to The Gambia in 2025.
